Burnham Thorpe was the birthplace of Admiral Lord Nelson who was baptised here. His father was the rector and so his family home was the Rectory. Nelson himself is buried in Westminster Abbey The original church dates from the early 13th century but was underwent substantial alterations in the nineteenth century completely renovated in 1905 for the centenary of the battle of Trafalgar.
